The 20 | NBC Philadelphia
  • Philly the Most Depressing Place to Live in the U.S in 2011. What are people in Philadelphia searching for on Google? Apparently the word “depression.” According to Google Trends and psychcentral.com, Philadelphia is the most depressed city in America, and Pennsylvania the most depressed state (note, this is a trend search and not a scientific study). From psychcentral.com:

“Sadly, if you’re a resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, more people from your city type in these terms more often than in any other city in America. This suggests that Philadelphia residents take the honor for the Most Depressing Place to Live in the U.S. in 2011. And Pennsylvania tops the state list as well for the most depressing state to live in. Sorry Pennsylvanians.”

Also of note, New Jersey is the third most depressed state.
