  • Ryan Howard Spent His Winter Watching The Real Housewives. Phillies slugger Ryan Howard spoke to the media for the first time Wednesday since tearing his Achilles’ in the final game of the 2011 season, a 1-0 loss to St. Louis. He addressed his recovery from the injury, when he expects to be back on the field and more. He also spent a considerable amount of time talking about housewives.
A recap from The20’s @toddzolecki:

“Q: What did you do for those two months you were immobile?
A: Watch a lot of TV. A lot of TV. Lots of (Real) Housewives shows and sporting events.
Q: Who’s your favorite housewife?
A: It depends on which show you’re talking about. There are so many housewives it’s ridiculous.
Q: Are you hooked on the shows?
A: I’m into it a little bit. I’m not going to lie. It’s a little intriguing. There is a little judgment in this room, I can feel it, but that’s all right.

  • Help Ryan Howard Build His Lazy River. As first reported locally by The 700 Level, the Phillies slugger is reportedly building a $23 million mansion in Belleair Shore, Florida (approximately 10 miles from the team’s spring training site in Clearwater). Among the amenities, according to local newspaper The Belleair Bee:

“A Venice-style lazy river running from the swimming pool underneath a series of bridges, and a bowling alley on the ground level with breakaway walls.”

Casa Del Howard, which will cover 17,500 square feet (Derek Jeter and his 30,875 foot-mansion are not impressed) on a gulf-front lot that covers over an acre, faces potential issues if not built fast enough. The town enacted a new ordinance two years ago enforcing time limits on the start and completion dates of new construction, which town attorney John Elias says would be two years. And that’s just not possible, or so says the Bee.

“A home the magnitude of Howard’s could take three-and-a-half to four years,” says lead architect Dan Dawson.

That deserves a “HowardClapt!” (via The20’s @meechone)
So the question is: who wants to help Ryan build his mansion, and then float around in the lazy river?
